The Uganda Dental Association (UDA), in partnership with the FDI World Dental Federation, will host a Tobacco Cessation Workshop aimed at empowering oral-health professionals with the knowledge and practical skills to support patients in quitting tobacco use.
Scheduled for Friday, 13 November 2026, at 5:00 PM East Africa Time (EAT), the workshop will take place at Forrest Cottages, Bukoto, Kampala.
Empowering Dental Professionals to Promote Tobacco Cessation
Tobacco use remains a significant public-health concern, with implications for oral health and overall well-being. Oral-health professionals are uniquely positioned to identify tobacco users, educate patients about the associated risks, and encourage them to take steps towards quitting.
Under the theme, “Empowering oral-health professionals to deliver brief, evidence-based tobacco cessation interventions in routine dental care,” the workshop will focus on strengthening the capacity of dental professionals to integrate tobacco cessation support into everyday clinical practice.
Through practical, evidence-based approaches, the initiative seeks to reinforce the role of dental teams in tobacco prevention and cessation, contributing to improved oral-health outcomes and healthier communities.
Strengthening Oral Health Through Collaboration
The workshop reflects the Uganda Dental Association’s continued commitment to professional development, evidence-based dental practice, and the promotion of better oral health in Uganda.
Collaboration with the FDI World Dental Federation further supports efforts to equip oral-health professionals with relevant knowledge and practical approaches to address tobacco use as part of comprehensive patient care.
